Laxmi is the Goddess of Wealth and Prosperity. She is pictured on this batik sitting on a large lotus flower, holding smaller lotus flowers and coins.

The lotus flower symbolises purity of heart and mind, representing long life, health, honour and good luck. It rises from the mud where it is rooted and blossoms into a beautiful flower above the surface of the water. It closes at night and goes back beneath the surface, then opens again with the daylight. It is completely untainted my the mud - a perfect analogy for spiritual purity rising above the contamination of the physical world. Laxmi is always depicted with lotus flowers.

Laxmi helps her devotees in attaining their worldly goals, in order to speed up their journey towards spiritual perfection.

Laxmi is an aspect of the Universal Mother. Other aspects include Sarasvati, Parvati, Durga, Shakti and Kali.

This handmade batik is printed on a stonewashed background, adding depth and texture to the image. It is approximately 100cm by 130cm.
