Product Description

Saraswati is here seen with her lute (or veena), sitting on a beautiful lotus flower which represents total purity and spiritual enlightenment.

Saraswati's vehicle, the swan, is pictured sitting next to her. Saraswati chooses the swan to transport her because this creature has a supremely sensitive power of discrimination. It is believed that with its beak a swan can tell the difference between milk and milk mixed with water. The swan is pure and makes good judgements. It has transcended fear, irrationality and greed.

Saraswati is the goddess of knowledge and the arts. Those who are studying, teaching or using art to communicate with others can call on Saraswati for guidance. She symbolises the need for us all to use our knowledge for the good of other people and the world around us. Saraswati reminds us that knowledge used for the sake of ego will not lead to happiness.

In her hands, Saraswati holds her lute, representing her harmony with the earthly and spiritual worlds, a book to symbolise intellect and wisdom and a mala (prayer beads) to show union with God.

Rainbow batiks are hand-printed and painted. Rainbow batiks are approximately 2.5 ft by 4 ft.

Please note that as this is a hand finished product, colours may vary from those pictured

Due to the nature of the hand printing techniques used in India, there may be natural variations in design and some double printing may occur, however this does not detract from the beautiful finish of this batik.
