Buddha sits meditating in the lotus position, his left hand pointed towards the ground. This is known as the Bhumisparsha Mudra, and depicts the moment that Buddha achieved enlightenment after meditating under the Bodhi tree. He touched the ground to call it to witness his spiritual enlightenment.
