Product Description

Saraswati is the Goddess of learning, knowledge, the arts and wisdom. She is worshipped by scholars, students, artists, scientists and teachers. She represents pure knowledge and reminds us that all knowledge should be used for the good of mankind.

Saraswati is usually pictured with four arms. In on had she holds a mala (prayer beads), denoting concentration, meditation and union with God. In another, she holds a book - a sign of intellect. The fact that the book is on her left side tells us that intellect must be used with love and kindness. In her other two arms, Saraswati plays a lute (or veena) which is a stringed instrument. This indicates that we must try to be in tune with the world around us and use what we know to assist others.

The swan is Saraswati's vehicle. It is said that a swan has a very sensitive beak and that it can tell the difference between milk and milk mixed with water - thus, it can tell pure from impure, right from wrong. The swan represents the power of discrimination.

Rainbow batiks are hand-printed and painted. Rainbow batiks are approximately 2.5 ft by 4 ft.

Please note that as this is a hand finished product, colours may vary from those pictured

Due to the nature of the hand printing techniques used in India, there may be natural variations in design and some double printing may occur, however this does not detract from the beautiful finish of this batik.
